WILDCAT TRAIL 5  "SPEY BANKS"

This is an easy level walk through part of the River Spey/Insh Marshes SSSI  (Site of Special Scientific Interest) . The Spey has the status of a Special
Area of Conservation with the aim of ensuring that the habitat requirements for four key species – salmon, sea lamprey, otter and freshwater pearl mussels – are safeguarded. 

Herons, sandpipers, wagtails, dippers, mergansers  and goosander can be seen on or near the river along with oystercatchers, lapwings  and ringed plovers.  Flocks of geese and swans are also seen here.

River Spey

The meadows along this section of the river are renowned for the variety of  native orchids to be seen  in late May and June.
