This is an easy level walk through part
of the River Spey/Insh Marshes SSSI
(Site of Special Scientific Interest) .
The Spey has the status of a Special
Area of Conservation with the aim of
ensuring that the habitat requirements
for four key species – salmon, sea
lamprey, otter and freshwater pearl
mussels – are safeguarded.
Herons, sandpipers, wagtails, dippers, mergansers and goosander can be seen on or near the river along with oystercatchers, lapwings and ringed plovers. Flocks of geese and swans are also seen here.
The meadows along this section of the river are renowned for the variety of native orchids to be seen in late May and June.
The trail continues by the banks of the Spey to the Two Rivers Section of the Walk - Go to Next Section
