Low Level and Medium Level Walking

The area around Newtonmore has some of the best low level walking in Scotland. Please find below examples of walks around Newtonmore. There is something to suit all interests and capabilities; from easy walks around the vilage the glens, moderate walks which take you into beautiful, unspoilt countryside, to more challenging walks up lower lying hills and viewpoints in the area.

The Walking Centre of Scotland
The Wildcat Trail is a well marked 10km circular trail around Newtonmore
Maintained by the Newtonmore Community Woodland Trust.  The trail takes in native woodland, moorland, views of the Monadhliath and Cairngorm Mountains and the banks of the Rivers Spey and Calder.
A number of other trails start from the centre of the village or nearby.

Hill Walking - Munros and Corbetts

Newtonmore provides an ideal base for exploring the high hills of the Monadhliath,
Cairngorms, Drumochter and around Loch Laggan These mountains which provide
some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland. Challenging, full day hikes into the
Monadhliaths can bemade direct from the village without the use of a car while
Munros such as Breariach, Creag Meagaidh, Ben Macdui are all within 30 minutes
drive. Shorter walks into the lower hills such as Creag Dhub provide alternatives if
less strenuous days are preferred.
